Dr. Harbor specializes in behavioral, neurological, and emotional disorders with children, adolescents, and college students. Using the Response to Intervention (RtI) model he provides Cognitive-Behavioral interventions that help clients overcome issues related to anxiety, depression, ADHD/Executive Function, learning, social skills, substance abuse, and anger management.
Additionally, he provides comprehensive psychological assessments to help determine the underlying factors that may be contributing to the behavioral and/or learning difficulties experienced by the individual. These assessments are designed to provide information to help develop an appropriate treatment plan for therapy and can also be used to assist pediatricians, psychiatrists, and/or neurologists. These assessments also include information that can help in educational decisions including the development of a 504 plan and/or used in helping determine eligibility for special education programs or modification of a student's individualize educational plan (IEP).
Dr. Harbor is also experienced in the assessment and treatment of learning issues that college students may face in both undergraduate and graduate programs. His experience as a University faculty member provides additional insight in how to help college students overcome their difficulties and reach their academic potentional.
Dr. Harbor has extensive experience in working with children and teenagers in Public Schools, Inpatient and Outpatient Psychiatric Hospitals, Juvenile Justice Programs, Alternative Education Schools and in Private Practice settings.
In addition to his private practice Dr. Harbor is employed as a full time School Psychologist for Hillsborough County Schools in Tampa, Florida. He was also a part-time faculty member with the University of South Florida School Psychology Graduate Program and has taught as an adjunct instructor for the University of the Virgin Islands- St. Thomas. Prior to his starting his work in the school system in 1999 he was the Director of Child and Adolescent Programs with the University of South Florida Psychiatry Center.
Dr. Harbor is an active member and a regular presenter for both the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) and Florida Association of School Psychologists (FASP). He is a member of several committees of various mental health and educational agencies and is the Immediate Past-President of FASP.
He provides workshops and in-service training for other School Psychologists and Mental Health Professionals throughout the year. These workshops often focus on delivering services for students with difficulties related to Anger Management, Social Skills, ADHD/Executive Function, and Psychiatric Disorders including Anxiety, Depression, and Thought Disorders. He also has developed interventions for adolescent Second Language Learners.
Dr. Harbor is very involved in field training and has developed and coordinated School Psychology practicum and internship programs and has experience as both a University-Based and School-Based Supervisor. He remains active in field research helping to understand and develop evidence-based interventions in the areas of Anger Management, Social Skills, and Substance Abuse, along with Risk and Protective Factors related to Behavior Disorders.
Dr. Harbor received his B.S. in Psychology from Georgia College and State University (1986) and his Ph.D. in School Psychology from the University of South Florida (2000). |
